Modul 4 reflection

As we reach Module 4, the final module of this course, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on how much I’ve gained from this learning experience. Taking this course has truly deepened my understanding of the PYP framework and its practical application in the classroom. One of the most impactful tasks was creating a drawing of a design for a new learning space. This exercise made me pause and think critically about how to design a space that is inclusive and accessible to all students, ensuring that their diverse needs are met in a meaningful and supportive way. Additionally, the process of creating a visual representation of the PYP as a holistic, transdisciplinary, and coherent learning experience allowed me to synthesize everything I’ve learned throughout this module. It gave me the chance to reflect on how the various components of the PYP framework come together to create a comprehensive and interconnected educational experience for students. This journey has been such a rewarding ...

Module 3 reflection

As someone new to the PYP, this course has been invaluable in deepening my understanding of the IB curriculum. After completing module 3, it has taught me new ways of planning and delivering lessons, particularly by emphasizing inquiry-based learning and student agency. I've learned how to integrate these principles into my teaching in a way that empowers students to take more responsibility for their learning. Through this workshop, I am able to apply inquiry as a pedagogical approach by framing lessons and units around student questions and interests. This encourages students to actively engage in their learning and fosters their sense of ownership. By promoting agency, I can provide students with more opportunities to make choices and decisions, whether it’s in selecting topics of inquiry or determining how they express their understanding. The workshop has helped me realize the importance of encouraging students to act on their learning, whether it’s through real-world connect...

Powerful impact of inquiry learning

The importance of inquiry learning Inquiry learning is not about simply imparting information. Instead, it encourages students to ask questions, explore topics in depth, and discover solutions for themselves. It’s a process where students take ownership of their learning by investigating real-world issues, seeking answers, and learning to think critically about the world around them. Rather than just memorizing facts, children learn how to think, analyze, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Benefits of inquiry learning Fosters critical thinking: Students engage in thoughtful exploration, questioning assumptions, and seeking evidence to support their ideas. Builds problem-solving skills: Inquiry learning encourages students to identify challenges, develop strategies, and find creative solutions. Prepares for the future: In a world where change is constant, inquiry learning equips students with the ability to adapt, innovate, and thrive in an uncertain future. Encourag...

Module 2 - Reflection

Completing this module has given me a deeper understanding of what transdisciplinary learning truly involves and highlighted the changes needed to develop a future unit of inquiry. It has helped me reflect on how I can implement these changes in collaboration with my team, ensuring we work together to enhance our students' learning experiences. By focusing on collaboration, integrating technology, and designing a well-structured curriculum, we are laying the foundation for growth—both in social skills and in inquiry-based learning. This approach will also support the development of the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, fostering a more holistic and engaging learning environment for the students.

Making the PYP happen by Ayanthi Leslie

This workshop has been a transformative experience for me, deepening my understanding of the PYP program. As someone who is new to the PYP curriculum, it has truly challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and pushed me to expand my knowledge in ways I hadn’t anticipated. One key takeaway from the workshop is the significance of applying the learner profile attributes, the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, international-mindedness, and language in a holistic way. These aspects are not just theoretical concepts, but practical tools that empower students to be curious, reflective, and globally-minded individuals. As an IB school, we place great emphasis on nurturing students to experience the world beyond textbooks. The PYP encourages a more experiential approach to learning, where students are challenged to explore, question, and engage with real-world issues. This focus on active learning makes them not only lifelong learners but also critical thinkers and problem solvers. It i...
