As someone new to the PYP, this course has been invaluable in deepening my understanding of the IB curriculum. After completing module 3, it has taught me new ways of planning and delivering lessons, particularly by emphasizing inquiry-based learning and student agency. I've learned how to integrate these principles into my teaching in a way that empowers students to take more responsibility for their learning.
Through this workshop, I am able to apply inquiry as a pedagogical approach by framing lessons and units around student questions and interests. This encourages students to actively engage in their learning and fosters their sense of ownership. By promoting agency, I can provide students with more opportunities to make choices and decisions, whether it’s in selecting topics of inquiry or determining how they express their understanding.
The workshop has helped me realize the importance of encouraging students to act on their learning, whether it’s through real-world connections or taking meaningful actions based on their discoveries. I can bring this mindset into the collaborative planning process at my school by focusing on how we can design units that promote student choice and reflection, allowing students to drive their own learning journeys.
Incorporating these strategies into upcoming units will help create a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment, where students not only learn but are actively involved in shaping their educational experience.
I'm looking forward to learn more in module 4.
